I love the summer holidays – having the kids home, running around and playing with their friends. What I don’t love so much is the constant “Moooooooom! What can we eat?” To help with the daily request, I spend some time on a Sunday preparing snacks for the week. Here are some of the most popular summer snacks amongst my kids and their friends.
Frozen Yoghurt Pops
In a blender blend up some fruit with yogurt, and pour into frozen pop molds. Some of our favorite fruits to use are berries, mango, and oranges.
Smoothies are a great substitute for milkshakes – much healthier! You can experiment for with different fruit combinations, and even if you are feeling adventurous you can even sneak some greens in there too! My kids love berries, banana, and plain yoghurt. I sometimes put a bit of spinach in too for a little extra health kick.
Take mini cookie cutters and cut fruit up in cute shapes, then put them on a kebab stick. Remember to keep an eye on the kebab stick and take it away as soon as your kids are done eating.
A small bowl of yogurt is a quick and easy snack. Mix it up by topping the yoghurt with berries, some granola, or with a little sugar-free fruit spread.
You can incorporate cheese into snacks in a variety of ways. It can be as simple as a block of cheese on its own, or small cubes served with fruit or pretzels. Cottage cheese with carrot and celery sticks also makes a fun and tasty snack.
Slice up an apple and drizzle with nut butter. For an extra special treat, you can also drizzle with some melted chocolate. These will be eaten up in no time!
